A Better India A Better World
Reading The better India the better world and also trying to put the book thought in my words with few examples from my side. Its a good book and worth reading. This book is basically is a collection of Mr Narayan murthy lectures at different places across the globe. It covers wide perspective form Politics to foreign trade to law and Of course technology
Few Good Points from the book
1.We have to recognize that public sector interest is not public interest and interest of government is not the interest of the people
2.The biggest bane of our thousand year old enslavement is apathy.the main reason of our poverty is our unwillingness to take proactive action when solution is is standing right infront of us staring at our face
3.We have learned and mastered the skill of escaping from our responsibilities to solve our problem by blaming our destiny
What to learn from west ?
4. Apathy in addressing the community matters has held us back from making progress which is otherwise within our reach. We do see and waste our time in analyzing the problems around us but never try to solve them .We behave as if the problem do not exist at all or as if they belong to some one else. In the West people people approach societal problem proactively. reason??- we were ruled by foreigners for over a thousand years so we have always believed that public or societal issues belong to some foreign ruler and we have no responsibility to solve them. We are so used to follow orders and hence a very very weak decision making capabilities.in Short in Aristotle words "We are what we repeatedly do" sounds so right.
eg:40 year old suggestion by irrigation expert to conquer the problem of drought and flood was to create a water grid consisting all the rivers from north and south.as of now no action being taken in that direction
5.Another important trait what we Indian can learn from west is accountability. In the west irrespective of your position you are held accountable for what you do where as in India the more important you are the less responsible you are
may be a little from their professionalism in dealing business
Corruption ?? is it really invincible
A positive example of how corruption can could be fought. Few years ago a minister of singaporean community was charged for corruption and was found guilty after primary investigation. He ran to PM asking if there was something what could be done to save his honor but after getting a negative reply and understanding it very clearly that his career is actually over and he will be punished he came back and put a bullet in his head. Think how strong message was sent by this action?
This is where i end my first part will soon put the review for the other half of the book

The Village By The Sea
Anita Desai :
In general all her are vivid and this is one more nice book in the series of
1.)Cry, The Peacock
2.)Fire On the Mountain
3.)Bye-Bye Black Bird
three must read books
This Story mainly revolves around
Hari
His Father who is basically a drunkyard
Her mother - who is anemic and growing weaker day by day
her sister - Lila- who is very mature girl compare to her age
and two more of hre younger sister
and their beloved dog
There are few more characters which have positive role like Jaggu and Wrist watch maker uncle who gives Hari the best siksha that One must go on learning
because any thing you learn will be useful here or there in a positive way
This Story also explains in a very ballanced way the how poverty can impact the whole family life and how in small places even earning a small bread is so tough. there is another positive character b name "Biju" who is a little showoff guy
but good at heart and so is D souza uncle family who help Hari family at bad time .. In short story is narrated in a very very positive sense and i loved the way she has very beautifully, through her story, given an apt solution for the problem. She makes us think that life is after all beautiful, and shouldn’t be wasted.
i will put this book in Kite runner and A thousand splendid Sun category and i really enjoyed my 3 hour read . Its a slim book and out of print as of now.

Are we ready for it ?
“When Men delayed History in
So far all the political parties have terrible record of giving women a share in political representation. Take for example 2009 election there were 8070 candidates who contested in these polls. Only 7 percent that is 556 were women candidate. So is it there are less good women available for representation or it is something else ? if former is the case aren’t we compromising the nation future. I don’t have single instance in mind where the reservation has served any purpose other than making rich richer.
I was told by women friend of mine that this is exactly we need reservation because this will bring more representation from the community which is considered to be comparatively week. And I had to tell her that just in case if you don’t know “OBC and Muslim women not to be given representation” because our constitution says They can have reservation only in jobs and education but not in legislatures. I am very sorry to say that though it’s a very good move but was not being taken keeping the nation interest in mind. It was mere a political move by Sonia Gandhi to bring Rahul Gandhi to power. The process was initiated at this point because she wanted to widening parties base ,luring in to mainstream whole new constituencies hoping that this will guarantee 300 + seats in loksabha so Rahul Gandhi can be king when he becomes PM ?
When I tried to dig a little more on NOT what Sonia Gandhi really think about it but what she actually does , the facts were surprising. Despite the fact that she shouts it so loudly that she is for woman empowerment she had allotted just about 10% of total seats for women in last election. Mayawati party BSP did even worst by restricting it to 5%.
Check this fact , out of the 59 women MP s 40 to be precise were crorepatis. And - out of the 59 Female MP s 10 have criminal cases pending against them. That makes it 17% of the women representative are criminals. What bothers me is, will we be ever able to find good representatives with this Quota rules? Can my nation take this as well? We need good and Strong leaders irrespective of their Sex. Our Foreign policies are messed up ,
My research on this bill was able to convince me that there is nothing actually that good as it was portrayed. It’s just yet another political move to increase vote bank and the nation is definitely not ready for it. It’s a very good thing to give reservation to women but maybe this is not the right time. I have not even an iota of doubt that women have better management capabilities than any of men can ever have but there is lot of homework to be done before we expect that we as a nation can actual reap the benefit out of the capabilities our female counterparts have. And reserving seats in LS definitely doesn't serves the purpose helping them to grow by giving them equal space does.Celebrating every day as women's day does, Giving them the respect they always deserved and ever denied, Does.
